Scott McBrayer
Mayor of Homewood


Born in Columbus, Mississippi and a graduate of New Hope High School, Scott came to Homewood on a football scholarship to Samford University. During his college career, Scott was very active in leadership positions serving as both Vice President and President of the Student Government Association. Earning his degree in Business at Samford University, Scott furthered his education graduating from Jefferson State Community College earning a second degree in Mortuary Science. Scott began his funeral service career in 1990 when he accepted a position with Ridout`s Valley Chapel in Homewood. Twenty-five years later, Scott now serves as the Managing Director assisting countless families and overseeing the daily operations of the funeral home. Scott`s ability to serve others has proven to be helpful not only in his funeral service profession, but in his personal life, as well.

Mike Higginbotham
City Council - Ward 2 - Place 1

 

Mike Higginbotham is a lifelong resident of Alabama. He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science and English (1992) and a Master of Public Administration (1995) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he remains an active alumnus (GO BLAZERS). 

Along his journey, Mike has been involved in a number of public pursuits, serving on the Planning Committee when Vulcan was renovated, as a Community President for Forest Brook, on a number of Visiting Allocation Teams for United Way, a Board President for the Homewood Public Library, Chair of the Educational Advisory Committee for Homewood City Schools, Founder and Administrator for the West Homewood (www.facebook.com/YourWestHomewood/) Facebook Page, and in the 2007 Class of Leadership Birmingham to name a few. He was chosen by the voters of District 3 as a member of the first elected School Board for Birmingham City Schools, and Mike currently serves as a member of the Homewood City Council, where he represents West Homewood in the Ward 2, Place 1 position.

Mike is the Director of Avondale Samaritan Place (www.facebook.com/avondalesamaritanplace/). He is married to Lisa Higginbotham, who is the Program Manager for the UAB Benevolent Fund, and they are the proud parents of one child, Joshua, who attends Homewood High School.

Andrew Wolverton
City Council - Ward 2 - Place 2

 

Councilor Wolverton was born in Starkville, Mississippi and has lived in Homewood for five years. He works as an outpatient physical therapist at Children's of Alabama. He and his wife, Trista, moved to Homewood from Seattle and have three children.
